The Radical pull to technology: Intelligent Personal Assistants
Technology and humans connect together more and more as the time flows, so when you see someone staring at their screens for hours, you don’t have to wonder why?
The five big giant players in the IT world have ardently spearheaded in probable revolutionary projects: intelligent personal assistants. Among the radical pull to feed technology, Intelligent Personal Assistants are here too!
Primarily what do you understand by the term personal assistant?
An intelligent personal assistant (or simply IPA) is a software agent that can perform tasks or services for an individual. These services are based on end user inputs, location awareness and the ability to access information from a variety of online sources. Intelligent personal assistant technology are enabled by the combination of mobile devices, application programming interfaces (APIs), and the proliferation of mobile apps.
Secondly, how do they make life so much easier? Let’s take an interview.
The wretched old weather reports and driving directions will do no good. To remind you to feed your dog, play music and frequently apologize for their shortcomings… Not needed either!
What’s their greatest strength?
Our very own Google’s, Google Now knows you the best! The vast data it collects often envelops your day to day routine which is super convenient. It keeps a track of your daily commute, your interests and details about your schedule. This information is used in the form of predictive ‘cards’ which shows your interest before you ask. Isn’t that convenient?
On the other hand Cortana is quite perky, and its location-based reminders, for instance, “Remind me to make toast when I get home” has worked the best.
Apple’s Siri is something in the middle — it gives you reliable answers and has a personality! Inclusive of its exclusivity, it works on all Apple’s products and runs only on their devices. E.g. why did Apple make you? Siri: For one reason only: to make your life easier and more fun (I guess that’s two reasons, huh?).
So Siri makes you laugh too!
Amazon Echo’s is that it isn’t in a phone, tablet or a computer. It is inside the speaker you place anywhere like you! Always listening for its name and an impressive microphone that can pick up commands in a normal voice from across the room.
Adding mileage to this technological era, Facebook’s M is right inside the app you’re already using every day: Messenger. Powered by artificial intelligence, it is trained and supervised by people. Rumours pledge, there lives a human component to Facebook’s approach.
Who needs a personal assistant?
Those for whom work and life often blends…!
As virtual secretaries become more powerful, the question of who works for whom will become more pressing.
Which one is your pick?
